PR Trips
Beauty brands like to advertise their new releases in the biggest and best possible way. Occasionally this involves a trip away for some lucky influencers and the brand. Benefit are just one of the brands that really know how to put a great trip together. Their most recent ones include a Friends Giving sleepover, a trip to Ibiza, a visit to the space station and 'Bene-Island'.
Those the invite on these trips will upload videos on their YouTube channels, and post photos of it online so their viewers can see what happened. This is usually ‘free’ advertising for the brand as they do not pay for the videos to be made, they just pay for the trip. Most of the time the trips will include free products, which will also be featured. This is getting the brand advertising that could otherwise cost thousands.
First the trip organisers will have to decide who to invite, it will usually be influencers the brand have worked with before. This way it gives them an idea of whether it will be shown on their channel, or whether they will get coverage from them on social media.
It used to be journalist who would be invited along, so they could feature the products in their magazines or on their magazine website, but now it has moved on to social media influencers.
Should trip like this be branded as advertising? The people on the trip are not being paid to show it off online, but they are getting free trips/holidays out of it.
